When Mama Explores Her New MacBook

When Mama gets a new MacBook Pro for an anniversary gift, she must get the teen daughter to set it up for her. The teen daughter then shows Mama the coolest part of having a MacBook.

Do you have a Mac? What are some things I should explore? I mean, besides the "alien" setting in Photo Booth...

The trackpad is my favorite part of owning a MacBook. Check out the System Preferences panel to configure the trackpad in the way that works best for you. My favorite is using a four-finger swipe up to access my desktop and a four-finger swipe down to show all windows and select which one I want (there is also a button in the top row of the keyboard that will pull up all the windows; I just prefer the trackpad over the button). The trackpad is addicting! It makes navigation a dream and puts the mouse to shame.

I also enjoy the corners feature, which you can access via System Preferences –> Expose and Spaces. Corners is a way to configure extra navigation shortcuts. For example, when I put my mouse into the top left corner if my screen, it starts the screensaver. When I point to the bottom left corner of my screen, it pulls up my dashboard (there is also a button on the top row of the keyboard to pull up the dashboard. Make sure to get to know your keyboard!).

And speaking of which, check out the dashboard! It’s a great kind of bulletin board type of feature that you can configure with widgets. I have mine set up with a calendar, calculator, weather report, several clocks set on different time zones, and multiple stickies to leave quick notes for myself.

I’m a techie dunce – I don’t even know what a Mac is but I do love the TobyMac song Mac Daddy. It’s cute and you should listen when you get a chance. It’s actually sung by his son and it’s him trying to talk his dad into getting him a Mac.

  3. Connie, you’re hilarious!

  4. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! (I think I write that on most of my comments for your blog. 😉 )

  5. Now I know where your daughter gets her sense of humor!
