God Provides For His People

If you have been reading here the past few weeks, you know that we are in bare bones expenditure mode because of my husband's sudden, unexpected layoff.

Even though we are only spending money on absolute necessities, we still could not survive this layoff without the help of our friends, and even strangers.

Just when I start to think (again, because I am a slow learner) "Why is this happening?!" I am reminded afresh that God is being glorified and our faith strengthened in our trials.

When I went to our mailbox last week, I found an envelope with no sender's address. I was completely overwhelmed to open it and find a cashier's check that was an amount sufficient enough to pay our electric bill and fill up our vehicles with gas.

There was no clue as to the identity of the sender, except that the check was enclosed in a paper titled, "God Provides For His People". The entire page was filled with one scripture after another reminding us that God will supply all of our needs and we are not to worry about how that will happen.

That paper is well worn because I have looked at it again and again.

So I can remember.

And that is not the only gift or encouragement we have received. Every single day, I receive an encouraging email or card in the mail, or fresh garden produce, or baby wipes, or a box of diapers, or other necessities, and on and on it goes.

Every day I am reminded that God provides for His people.

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him." John 9

  2. Thank you for that posting and scripture. You are an encouragement to many people. Thanks for opening the door to your life and letting us in:)

  3. We truly serve and AMAZING GOD. It is great to see his work thru other people and his blessing in daily life. You are in my prayers.

  4. We went through a very similar and downright dire situation where we received an unmarked envelope in the mail with money orders totaling $1,500 plus a $250 Walmart gift card and a small slip of paper with Proverbs 3:5 typed on it. God is so good and so faithful, beyond our wildest expectations!

  5. I love that last passage! Hang in there!

  6. What amazing blessings you have received! I think it’s great that you point out the blessings and focus on them. Sometimes when we are in self pity we dismiss all of the blessings. Hang in there! Praying for you!

  7. Amen! We serve an awesome God!

  8. So beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Shortly after our second child was born four months prematurely, our gas bill (to the tune of $650) was mailed to us with a handwritten note that read, “Your balance has been anonymously paid in full. All of our prayers are with you and your precious daughter.” We never did solve that mystery. Deep down, I don’t believe we were meant to…

  9. You are an inspiration of faith to me. Thank you! Meanwhile, please hang in there and NEVER be afraid to ask for help. That is why we have brothers and sisters in Christ. Even some of which you have never met.

  10. We’re going on 9 months since my husband was laid off, and we have been amazed to see God’s blessings during this trial. About 6 months ago, right before the birth of our son, we received a check in the mail for $3,000. It was from a man my husband once worked with at a summer camp, many years ago, and barely remembered. They had connected on Facebook, and the man decided to give us this generous donation. At Christmas (right after our son’s birth) we received lots of gift cards from friends at church or people we had worked with.

We have been so blessed by the people of God, and we look forward to blessing others as we have been blessed. Thank you for sharing! I’ll have to remember this verse as we continue in these days of underemployment.

  11. Beautiful how God speaks to us through others. Thank you for sharing this. Continuing to pray over your situation. As well as our own. :)

    Many blessings,

  12. Connie, I have to say this post made me cry. We haven’t lost our job but through a series of events we are at the bottom. This weekend my husband got really down. When he got to work today he had several emails waiting for him from various websites full of scripture, full of inspiration, much like your paper. How faithful our God is to provide for our needs when everything around us tells us we will lose. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It reaches more than just your readers.

  13. ….and those who are giving are being blessed beyond words too.
Thanks so much for sharing this … and you’re often in our prayers, over here in Scotland too x

  14. I LOVE this!! God is amazing!! Bless you guys!! Connie, thanks for being a blessing!

  15. Praise the Lord for His faithful children! I’ve been through enough seemingly insurmountable situations to know that God is always there, making sure that -in every thing- we are strengthened and He is glorified. Keep the faith, knowing that your reward will be great in the end!

  16. Ashley Keith says:

Thank you so much for this awesome post – it was exactly what I needed to read today! God’s timing is, well, perfect…Thank you for the encouragement & for reminding us that yes, all things in our lives (the good AND the seemingly not-so-good) are designed to draw us nearer to him & give him glory. And in the end, he will always, always provide for us. I love it when he does it in ways we could never even fathom! He’s so fun like that. :)
