What's the big deal about Young Living

Lessons Learned From Moving

You would think that when a person has moved 12 times, there would be no more lessons to learn, that a person with so much moving experience would be a pro, an old timer, a seasoned veteran, if you will.

Apparently, I'm a slow learner.

Here are some things I have learned from my latest move:

  • Packing all my shoes, except for flip flops and my high heeled pleather boots is not the best idea I've ever had.
  • Flip flops are not suitable shoes for walking to and fro with many heavy boxes.
  • Neither are high heeled pleather boots.
  • Books in boxes are heavy.
  • Actually, I knew that one, but I forgot HOW heavy!
  • Opening boxes of books you haven't seen in 2 years is like Christmas!
  • Children get easily side tracked by books they haven't seen in 2 years.
  • It is not fun to live with 9 other people in a house with no running water for 3 days.
  • Running water isย a good thing.
  • I love running water.

  1. in Febuary we moved to bragg, we stayed ina hotel for 2 weeks. at the end we took all my shoes and put in a trash bag. My first pair of boots (hard to find a size 11 boot). my nice shoes, my good tennis shoes. Guess what got lost between the hotel and the new house. I do not think I will ever be able to replace my shoes

  2. I shall bear all the above in mind next time I move. Oh wait, I don’t plan to move. Ever. Ahh, but who knows – God’s ways are not ours, so I shall be prepared. x

  3. you’re hilarious! we’re military and we move all the time but with only 2 kids and professional movers and EVEN that is painful! i feel your pain! but what a positive attitude! cheers to a cup of fresh water~

  4. LOL the shoes thing make me laugh because I did the same when we move here!! and I agree I LOVE running water, even better hot water! Our water heater keeps going on and off !!! Cold showers are no fun !!!

  5. Running water is a good thing. A very good thing! PS – Your sweet potato casserole was such a hit at our community Thanksgiving meal that I’ve had people are already asking me if it will be on the menu this year. It will. :)

  6. I hear you on the books and Christmas! We haven’t moved for 12 years, but we felt like we moved when we had massive remodeling and additions to this house. We had some boxes of books that were packed up for, ahem, 3 years. It was fun opening them.

Glad the water is back on and the settling in is progressing!

  7. Once my husband helped my cousin move. The men decided trash bags would work just as well as boxes for packing things (like dishes, pots and pans, etc.) so that’s what they used! Somehow, they forgot what was good stuff and what was trash, and my cousin’s wife lost all of her pots and pans in that move because THEY WERE THROWN AWAY!

  8. LOL! We moved a couple months ago and I actually used the book boxes to occupy my girls. It took them hours to unpack ONE box of books and put them on the bookshelf! Of course they got sidetracked, they played school the whole time.

  9. LOL!
I don’t know, how often I moved as a child with my family – I thought, I’d know everything, too. But nevertheless, when we moved 3 1/2 years ago, there was chaos.

Maybe the circumstance of having to move out of our old house to a little holiday-home eight weeks before the new house was equipped with stairs and doors (and running water!) and such stuff contributed a little ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Happy unpacking!

  10. Agh! I can relate! We’re in the middle of moving our family of nine 1000 miles – to Texas! So thanks for going ahead of us to let me know what works and doesn’t work : ) Currently, my crew is distracted by all the cardboard boxes yet to be packed – they’re more exciting than toys!!!!

  11. I can totally imagine your experience. We move every 2 years.

  12. Hi Connie
I’m hoping that means the water is running again!
Hope the move is going well – even in flip flops! Enjoy settling into your new place!
    Have a wonderful week

  13. Love your list!! Good luck with your unpacking!

  14. I am so glad that you are finally settled in. Moving has to be one of my least favorite things in the world… and I’m totally with you on the flip flops… not that I have ever done that or anything ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. We have only moved 4 times. The last move God taught me a lesson. I hired this moving company my dh was on the other side of the state living there in. I was so happy got such a great deal only 900 in something. The last 2 moves we always used the same company but I thought I fine someone cheaper. We were moving like 300 miles so I said lets go with this new company boy that was a bad choice. I called everyday for three day befor the closing date. I herd the people we bought the house from there movers never showed. I had a bad feeling about this. O they would give us boxes on top of the price they told us. Well they showed only three hours late. So we were going to get started and guess what one of the workers hurt him self. I called the ower and he said we were out of luck. I am so glad that after we closed on the old house I gave us longer to move out. We hired the same movers that moved us the last time. So I think that we all learn something each time we move. Glad that you are getting it all to work out now.

  16. I have moved more than 40 times and let me tell you, there are so many fun things I could share. One thing I know is that no matter how well I plan there will always be days of searching and trying to find things in the days following a move.
