What's the big deal about Young Living

First Day of School!

We are starting our first day of school today. Is it okay to admit that I am already tired just thinking about it?

This year I have students in 1oth grade, 8th grade, 5th grade, 3rd grade, and 1st grade. In addition to those, my 4 year old is chomping at the bit to learn to read. She has been begging me for a while, and is already sounding out some small words on her own, so I absolutely can NOT put her off any longer! I also have a 2 year old and a newborn who will be needing my attention.

Occasionally, I have people tell me, "I don't know how you do it!" Honestly, I'm not sure how I will do it either!

That's okay, though. I often tell my children, "Bravery is being afraid, and trying anyway." I will be brave and plow ahead, and with God guiding my steps, I will do it, hopefully for His glory.

I would surely appreciate your prayers if you think of me.

  1. Yikes! We’re starting our first day tomorrow, and it’s really my first time “really” homeschooling. I’m nervous and I am only teaching my 7 & 6 year olds, and much of their subjects are together. I also will have a 2 & 1 year old at home with us and am wondering how I’ll do it. Looking at your list, I feel a little better….but then again you’re more experienced as I will be one day when mine are older and I have more to school. Hang in there!

  2. However things are going, you’ll know this much…..your kids are exactly where they’re supposed to be…. AT HOME!
That keeps me going often when I know I’m failing to be *the best* for them, They are at home. It’s where they’re supposed to me. And it’s where God meant them to be.
I think amongst all the hubbub, we need to remember to enjoy these times. They’ll be over before we know it.
    Love, Anne x
And yes, I will remember you, and others like you, in prayer. God bless.

  3. Connie,
Our children are similar in age….I have a 10th grader, an 8th, a 6th, a 1st, and a 4yo. I feel the same way! I don’t know how we are doing it, and we are in our 4th week! I have yet to find the groove that works. I use Sonlight, and I estimate that I am reading out loud 3 + hours a day! Not all in one stretch, but still, my voice is getting tired!

I enjoy your blog so much!
    Enjoy your day.

  4. When people ask me what grades my kids are (and my kids have given me the panicked look of “What did she tell me to say when people ask my grade??”) – I say 7th, 5th, 3rd, 1st, preschool, preschool, preschool. Because frankly, when you have them at home they’re all in school!

Last year my 6yo could never remember the word “kindergarten” – she came up with some pretty funny words as substitutes! : )

  5. Have fun! You only have these days once, right?

We’ll be starting more “officially” next week. We sort of school year-round, though we are even more relaxed than usual through the summer and I am actually really looking forward to getting back into a bit more of a routine, though it will still be a pretty relaxed routine :-)

  6. You can do it ! I am sure of that :)

  7. Oh, boy. I will never complain again. I started homeschooling my kids this year, but I only have two in 3rd & 5th grades. You must be Wonder Woman! I look forward to hearing how you do it all. You are very brave, an inspiration.

  8. Connie, we also started back today and I’m saying the same thing, “I don’t know how this is going to happen.” As you said, we will do it with God guiding our steps and hopefully to His glory.

I will be praying. Love you, my friend!

  9. I feel this way, just thinking about school. We are doing some online programs this year, to hopefully make it easier on me – the working mom.
    Philippians 4:13, sister!

  10. I don’t often stop by your blog, but I was glad to read this post. I seem to drag myself through the fall. I think I have an attitude problem and should probably proceed to the corner. :)
