What's the big deal about Young Living

Friday Fails

Boy, oh boy, could I write a book about the failures I've had!

Myra, at My Blessed Life, had created a blog carnival where we can admit our failures and hopefully learn from others. I noticed her "fail" was leaving a casserole out all night on the counter.

Been there. Done that!

In fact, just this week I browned 5 pounds of ground beef with chopped onions and minced garlic. I was so proud that I was going to bag it up and put it in the freezer so I would have ready ingredients for quick dinners on hand!

I bet you know where this is going, right?

It was Wednesday night, so we had church and one of our girls decided she wanted to be baptized that very night. No waiting! She was very insistent. Just like the Ethiopian eunuch, she reminded us that the water was available, WHAT was keeping her from being baptized?

We were so proud of her and we stayed at church extra long for others to rejoice in her decision.

It wasn't until we were on our way home a couple of hours later that I realized the 5 pounds of ground beef was still sitting out in the skillet! I had never bagged it up and put it in the freezer!

UGH! I hate it when I am trying to plan ahead and end up with a big FAIL!

How about you? Have you ever had a food fail?

  1. Oh dear! Do you have a dog that could benefit from your mistake? I’m sure he was happy about the upgrade:)

Glad to hear your daughter took the step of obedience to be baptized. That trumps saving 5 lb of meat:)

  2. Can you not use meat left out for a few hours?

  3. Congrats on your daughter being baptized! That turns it from a Friday Fail to a Fantastic Friday!

  4. While your life may not be perfect, you bring great joy and happiness to mine through your writing.

I’ve given you a blog award here:

  5. So frustrating, I just hate wasting food!! I once left a huge pot of our favorite soup out overnight! I was just about sick over it!

    • @Rachel, Should I be worried I’ve never thought anything of leaving soup or meat out for a few hours. I leave soup out overnight in the winter.

      • @Dawn, If it was only a few hours I wouldn’t be worried! I frequently leave food sitting out for 3-4 hours (sometimes because I do forget!) However, I wouldn’t eat food that was left out overnight (especially this soup I mentioned, it was milk, cheese & sour cream based)! (I wasn’t trying to make you feel bad!) :)

  6. I’m glad it’s not just me!

  7. Hmm… I set a casserole on fire the other night, does that count? 😉
Luckily, I was standing right there. After baking it, I had poured a layer of fried onions on top of it and put it back in the oven to broil for a minute. But I neglected to leave the oven door cracked. Broiling is a powerful heat source on the top rack, you know that?
My 14yo was rather impressed. I just scraped off the burnt top layer and it was all good.

  8. hummmm where shall I start?
I served my family Italian sausage once and it wasn’t cooked on the inside.
I have burnt bread and many other things in the broiler
OH and my personal favorite, I once made and served my family chili and forgot to put he chili seasonings in it. So basically it was beans meat tomatoes and water. yum! :(

  9. I have left food out for a few hours and been just fine. I had always thought if it was a 24-hour period that things started going bad. If it was raw that’s one thing, but cooked doesn’t mean it goes bad in a few hours.

  10. Congratulations to your daughter!

Last week my Friday Fail post was about forgetting about a pot roast. I forgot I put it in the bottom drawer of the fridge. It was way past the expiration date. So I cooked it for the dogs! It about broke my heart but I figured at least we could give the dogs a treat. So, it happens to all of us!

  11. I just found this carnival this week – a day too late! I posted about a food fail today! Homemade “noodles” :)

  12. hey! Love the blog! Following you now from BF!

  13. Oh my – I had a HUGE food fail last week: http://ayearwithmomanddad.com/2011/03/momm-impossible/
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one! :)
